The Lutheran World Federation (LWF, or FLM in French) has been active in the Central African Republic (CAR) since 2013 and in Cameroon since 2014. In 2023, the two country programs were merged under a single representation based in Yaoundé, with field offices in Maroua, Kousseri, Makary, Batouri (Cameroon), and Bouar (CAR).

Operating in fragile and conflict-affected regions, LWF focuses on three key thematic areas identified in our Theory of Change: protection and social cohesion, climate-resilient livelihoods, and quality services. In 2024, the program initiated new partnerships with research institutions to strengthen the technical and innovative dimensions of its interventions.

Our team of over 100 staff, with only two international positions, reflects LWF’s strong local presence and commitment. Our added value lies in our multisectoral expertise, contextual understanding, trusted relationships with communities and authorities, and our ability to mobilize a diverse range of donors.

Looking ahead, we are strengthening collaboration with local partners, supporting their leading role in the implementation of sustainable solutions. Together, we are building a more just, inclusive, and resilient future for forcibly displaced populations and host communities in some of the most fragile regions of Cameroon and CAR.

Local voices, local actions

In Gaoupata, Logone Birni municipality, 15 farmers (nine women and six men) have transformed their lives by becoming nursery growers. Before meeting LWF in 2024, they practiced agriculture without a real ambition to grow trees. The passion was there, but not the structure.

With LWF’s support, the Group of Forest and Fruit Tree Seedling Producers (GPPFF) was established in October 2024. Members received hands-on training in nursery techniques, financial management, and group cohesion. LWF also provided them with professional tools, a variety of seeds, and essential logistical support.

Today, with 13,000 seedling pots prepared and increasing demand, their work is attracting attention from local authorities and international organizations. Seven new members have joined the group.

Driven by a clear vision, the GPPFF aims to become a regional leader in the fight against climate change. Where heat once threatened their crops, they now see a reason to act: to contribute actively to climate resilience for the benefit of their entire community.
Thanks to LWF, these producers have planted more than just trees—they’ve sown the seeds of a sustainable future.

"With LWF’s support, I adopted sustainable farming techniques without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Mulching protected my crops from the heat. Today, my okra harvest is exceptional. I’ll sell part of it and feed my family. Now I want to raise awareness in my community about the dangers of chemicals.”

"Before, I saw nature without really being interested in it. Today, I understand its importance and I want to take action. Planting trees, raising awareness among my classmates... every little bit helps to protect our environment. This club has given me a mission: to preserve nature for future generations."
