Since 1983 LWF Central America operates in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. There, common threats to vulnerable populations include limited, fragmented economic growth; forced and voluntary migration; continued violation of basic human rights; militarization and insecurity; and natural disasters. As a response, LWF Central America conducts projects in the areas of food security, climate change, human rights and gender justice, migration, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and and humanitarian assistance.
The JOTAY ACTing Together Program is the joint programme of presently four organizations - Norwegian Church Aid, ACT Church of Sweden, Bread for the World, and the Lutheran World Federation/World Service under the legal umbrella of the latter. The JOTAY ACTing Together Program works in: Gender justice, focused on women’s rights, sustainable natural resource management, rule of law and democratic citizen security, disaster risk management and humanitarian response and political advocacy.

“I liked confirming that we all that we are all equal. If I could change anything have rights and in Usulután, it would be violence because there are many cases of people who harm girls just for not being with their parents”.
Jennifer Gongora, age 14, who benefited from “Smart Seeds” program
“I prefer to stay in the village. I would like to visit the United States, but it’s very dangerous and I’d prefer to stay in the village and grow corn, tomatoes, beans, tangerines, and save seeds. I like living in my community, and I’ve learned how to plant the crops, make rows, and even my own fertilizers. Now I farm and earn money.”
