The Lutheran World Federation (LWF), in partnership with Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), has been present in Haiti since 1986, standing with communities through crisis and recovery. Since 2017, the joint office in Port-au-Prince has led integrated responses to natural disasters, poverty, and social and environmental vulnerabilities. In 2024, LWF/NCA reached over 51,700 people through 14 impactful projects focused on WASH, livelihoods, climate adaptation, food security, and disaster risk reduction. In the face of instability, LWF/NCA remains committed to dignity, justice, and hope—empowering Haitians to reclaim their future.
“In our school—clean water flows, toilets shine, and dignity returns. You gave us more than infrastructure—you gave us pride. You taught us that compassion builds futures.”
Clean toilets, water flowing
A water tank to satisfy our thirst
And hygienic toilets to protect us
Pure water, it is life given
And the way to a stronger future
You are a great lesson of solidarity and compassion
Thanks to you, we are fulfilled.

Local voices, local actions
At Saint Charles School in Carrefour Sanon, 278 girls, 230 boys, and 16 teachers once faced unsafe sanitation and scarce water. Open defecation was common, and many girls stayed home. With the support of LWF/NCA and FNGA, the school now has inclusive water systems and gender-sensitive latrines. Hygiene has improved, attendance has risen, and students now learn with pride and security.
“Thank you for allowing our students to experience better health conditions,” says Principal Sister Lisade Finay. Today, children not only attend school—they flourish in it.

“Women are the heart of Haiti’s renewal. Through our programs, they gain skills, lead change, and shape stronger futures. Empowering women means transforming society.”
Jobs
LWF World Service is regularly looking for new staff to work in the field. A commitment to the human rights of every individual, regardless of their status, guides our work, actions, and operations. Our work is people-centred and community-based.
