LWF has been present in Haiti since 1995. Opened in 2017 in Port-au-Prince, the joint office of Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH), the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) World Service, and Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) responds to needs caused by natural disasters and social, economic, and environmental crises. The three organizations carry out joint projects in the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), livelihoods, climate adaptation, food security, and disaster risk reduction (DRR). In 2021, the joint office supported over 75,000 people through eight projects. In addition, awareness campaigns were conducted, tippy-taps and hand-washing stations were installed, and training were put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Life is difficult, with our MUSO (Micro credit system), we are working together to find solutions to our problems. Thanks FNGA and LWF for your support”

Local voices, local actions

The students at the Espwa community school in camp Perrin, Haiti, walk up to two hours to have their lessons, but when they arrive, there is often not enough drinking water for them. LWF, NCA and local partners are working to change that.

“Fortunately, we work with local partners. We talk with them every day, and have regular meetings online. When humanitarian flights allow it, we go to visit the communities (...) I’m really proud to be working with LWF. My hope is that peace comes back and we can fight for the beauty of Haiti”
